To vote or not to vote!

Allstar weekend is coming up and if you love basketball and not Kobe Bryant then you might not like this time of year. All star weekend is about getting the best five players in each conference from, THAT YEAR, and plotting them against one another. The fans get to vote in the starting five which consists of two guards, and three front court players. While the coaches vote in another seven players, two more guards, three more front court players and two more players from any position. I think the part that has been lost in translation is the reason fans are voting. If I had it my way the starters would be voted on by their peers in the NBA while fans got to vote in the reserves, but we all know that won't happen!

I have my teams and I have my favorite players but I am willing to admit when I'm not going to vote in a player I like just because he plays for my team. All star weekend has been famous for snubs for the last five years or so because fans get to vote in the starters. Such examples like Yao Ming getting voted in for the 2011 game, after playing no more than five games that year, comes to mind. How about Kobe Bryant getting the same treatment last year after only playing a handful of games. Don't get me wrong when Kobe is healthy he's a threat from anywhere on the floor and when Yao Ming was healthy he seemed unstoppable unless 5'9 Nate Robinson was there to block his shot. But with all that said All star weekend is about the best players that season.

The idea has been tossed around about how the voting for all-star weekend should be dealt with but I personally don't see the NBA taking the privilege of naming favorite players to an all-star team away from the fans. Charles Barkley thinks fans shouldn't get to vote at all! Now I think thats a little too far but if ridiculous snubs keep happening like they have in recent history then something will need to change. If Steph Curry misses another all-star game while David Lee makes it then I might lose my mind. Luckily Steph Curry is leading guards in voting as of right now and looks like a shoe in for the starting PG position, but after him the votes get a little muddled. You have Kobe Bryant leading ahead of Harden, Paul, Rondo (who has no business being in this list), Thompson, Westbrook and Lillard. Most of those players with the exception of rondo are posting better stats in almost every category including having major rolls in their teams successes unlike the 12-25 Lakers. I mean at this rate just make Trevor Booker an all-star. I would pay to see that shot again and again. Plus it looks better than any shot Kobe has taken this season!

All in all I just want everyone to have the awareness to vote players that deserve it into the all-star game. If you truly think Kobe deserves it this year then more power to ya. But if you need a little convincing watch this and tell me Lillard doesn't deserve to play in the all star game. Lillard for all-star weekend! ( FYI Trailblazers are my favorite team).
